Переслать - Olivier Theyskens coffee table book is finally available for pre-order
Designer Olivier Theyskens' ascension in the fashion world was nothing less than meteoric. At 20, the lank-haired youngin' dropped out of design school to create his first collection. Soon after, Madonna wore a gothic-inspired Theyskens dress to the Oscars, putting the designer's name on the map on an international scale. But since that halcyon debut, Theyskens' path has been rocky; he was charged with reinvigorating two legendary fashion houses, Rochas and Nina Ricci, only to leave both (Nina Ricci just last year) after reports that he was unwilling to commercialize his oft-extravagant creations in the name of maximizing sales (which, undoubtedly, was only part of the story in both instances).
But through it all, few have doubted Theyskens' ability to create breathtaking clothes -- dreamy confections that alternately conjure fairy tales and nightmares. And now many of the designer's jaw-dropping creations are being featured in a new book, "Olivier Theysken: The Other Side of the Picture," published by Assouline and now available for pre-order online for $120.
Written by Sally Singer, director of fashion news and features at Vogue, the photo-heavy tome is a memoir of sorts, looking back on Theyskens' life and career through storytelling and images taken by Julien Claessens -- who was given no-holds-barred backstage access to Theyskens' fashion shows (the resulting photos capture the designer's darkly romantic aesthetic sublimely).
A retrospective book on any other 33-year-old designer might feel premature, but considering how much Theyskens has already accomplished in his career, the timing feels about right.

Переслать - You tell us: How do you curb shopping cravings?
BCBGMaxAzria ... Bluefly ... Hayden-Harnett ... Urban Outfitters ... it seems all of my beloveds have teamed up in a double-dog-dare electric-sales-alert throw-down to make me spend my paycheck on their after-holiday sales. I calculated and -- if I give in -- it could cost me around $100 a day just to check my e-mail.You can tell me to just unsubscribe from these alerts, but the thing is that shopping is actually something I crave and something I can truly say I thoroughly enjoy. There have been bad days at work when I hope and pray for the weekend, not because I have some hot party planned but because then I'll have a chance to troll the Grove.
But this isn't just me. My instant messenger flashes with cries from friends across the nation begging for moral support. They all try to avert their eyes when they see that the lovely frock they've been coveting since October is now 45% cheaper.
So we come to you, All the Rage readers, empty wallets in hand. How do you keep your checkbooks in check and curb your spending cravings? Please share in the comments section.

Переслать - Photo ops: Street fashion on Long Beach's Belmont Shore
There's no rest for the weary: Street fashion photographer Colin Young-Wolff once scoured yet another L.A.-area neighborhood to see what locals wear when they're out and about.
This time he headed to Belmont Shore in Long Beach, where he found local lady and floral-print lover Naazak Paghicour. She was nice enough to pose for photos and share her style creed: "Fashion is temporary, style is forever." Check out who else Colin met by flipping through this gallery.

Переслать - SK-II makes do-it-yourself airbrush foundation easier
I am totally intrigued by airbrush foundation for that light and flawless look it seems to create on the skin, but even the devices created as "consumer friendly" are an intimidating cross between an airbrush and tattoo gun.Japanese skincare and cosmetic brand SK-II has an airbrush foundation that looks just like a compact or round perfume bottle. It's sleek, small, light and portable. I feel better just knowing it doesn't look like a medical contraption or need an instruction manual to use.
The SK-II Airtouch foundation has a little on/off switch that when flipped releases tiny particles of foundation that bond to the skin. The little red disc should be held 4 inches from the face and brought back and forth across the face until it's covered. The formula is only drawn to moisture in the skin, so it naturally avoids eyelashes and eyebrows.
At $165 it's a pricey device and foundation, but if you're into the look of airbrush makeup, this one seems relatively user-friendly and eliminates the need for nasty makeup sponges that collect at the bottom of your makeup bag.
SK-II AirTouch Foundation is currently available at www.sk-ii.com and at select Saks Fifth Avenue locations. $165 for starter set (device and refill) $90 per refill.
